    Micro-ring extensions advice

    I've been considering extensions for wedding hair as I want it long enough to do a snazzy pin-up style:

    using this tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uw90n9zWEGE

    So I bought some micro-ring extensions just to play with and try out how they looked, styled, etc. they're 18 inches long and that is too long for my hair length, it makes it waist length. I know I need to trim and blend them, but I'm not sure how to trim them short enough that they blend in but not so short that they don't actually extend my hair at all. Not sure it's worth it at all if they only add another inch or two.

    I did the tutorial back in september and haven't really cut my hair since, so I've got that extra length anyway and as you can see, the style works and looks good, so I'm not sure.

    Basically, any tips for wearing micro-ring extensions, blending them or whether I need them at all or even can wear them with my hair as short and layered as it is. Just confused >.<

    If your hair was oily or had any sort of product in it that can prevent them from staying. Also, you need to crimp them pretty hard or they won't stay. Someone told me that you should shampoo and dry your hair only, then condition afterwards.

    If you duck face, we can't be friends.

    Was it micro loops or what kind of hair did you go for? I'm wondering because I have some micro rings waiting to be played with but only have a bunch of wefted hair frowning

    My hair did feel a little bit "should've rinsed out the conditioner"-y when I put them in, thought that might be a factor. I didn't like the extensions for a bunch of reasons, including making the styling so much harder when I tried it out on Friday, where I'd put them, I could see the rings when I put it into a ponytail. I've decided against them, too much faff.

    I used a packet of 10 from a company called Rave, they were micro loop human hair, 18 inch 100% Remi hair. Not these exactly but they looked like it:

    They had the little plastic things in them that you loop the hair through then pull and it's all threaded up and ready for crimping. That was kinda cool though would work out really expensive since it was £12.99 for the pack of 10 I got and I've heard it's 150 for a full install. Roulla wrote an article a while back and mentioned that you could use weft hair @Jude, so maybe you can give it a go?

    Yeah it's definitely worth a try since I already have the stuff. My hair isn't all that thick so I'll have to be careful about covering it. I dunno... I just can't envisage it on me.

    Let us know if not conditioning works for you.

    I'm probably not going to use them again for ages but I get the feeling @urs uses them quite regularly so she might have some more words of wisdom

    You do have to be more careful with styling, and the type of ring makes a difference, too. Most are aluminum, which is fine, but I prefer the ones that have a silicone insert on the inside of the ring, as it provides a lot more traction and is a lot more comfortable than just metal rings.

    And yes, you have to crimp them pretty tightly. When I am pulling up a section of hair to put a ring on, I try to get enough hair so that when I insert the I-tip, it's pretty snug and the ring doesn't slide down. Then I use regular pliers to squish them, instead of the kind you tend to get with the kits, because they will usually have an opening in them that makes it too easy for the crimp to not be tight enough.

    However, I also have a ton of hair, it's really coarse, and my individual hairs are really fat. It's really the ideal hair for getting extensions to stay in, because it's got so much texture that they don't come out easily. And since I have so much of it, they are easy to hide. But I also keep them off of my hairline; I usually install about an inch in from the hairline to keep them less visible. I do have some clients with thinner hair that have a tough time with this, though; it seems that some hair is thin enough that you are going to see them no matter what. I prefer mine not to show, but at the same time, I don't worry about it too much, as I'm sure it's not really a secret to anyone that I have extensions in.

    They are definitely high maintenance and a lot of work. I don't recommend them for everyone, and if I couldn't do my hair at work, I likely wouldn't even bother.
