Tattoo Categoriesby Erin_Marie1Posted 11 years, 2 months ago
Ive been going to the Hell City Tattoo Festival for a couple of years now but now ive got some ink that i want to enter in some of the tattoo competitions. My problem, however, is i have absolutely no idea which one to enter it in. The categories are: Most Unusual
Best traditional Best new school Best Asian tattoo Best Sleeve Worst tattoo Best Small color Best Large color Best Biomechanical / Organic / Special Effects
Best Backpiece Best small black & grey - (includes tribal) Best large black & grey - (includes tribal) Best portrait - (color or b&g) Best overall female Best overall male
Im not even really sure what all of those categories mean so if you know, help would be hardcore appreciated.

Can you register at the convention or do you need to register beforehand?
Honestly, I think Small Color, Most Unusual and possibly New School would fit the tattoo, as it isn't a "traditional design", which I'm assuming would be American traditional style only. It's a rather different theme, so you might pique some interest in the "unusual" category. New School is usually whatever isn't Traditional, so it's a fairly broad category.
If you need to regiser beforehand, I'd ask your tattoo artist what he or she thinks, or otherwise talk to a few others artists. If your artist finds out you're entering their ink, they might be interested in doing a touch-up on it as well.
Good luck. I don't think I'd have the guts to enter my tattoos in a competition. They're so personal that I don't think I'd like other people judging them.
EDITED: OMG - I just went to the website for Hell City. There is some amazing work on there. Wow! Looks like a lot of fun. I'm pretty jealous. It'd be fun to be around so many tattooed people.
